Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - August 2, 2023

Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - August 2, 2023

We have seen more crayfish in the river this year than any year before.  Not sure why but this works to our advantage for the smallmouth bass love to feed on crayfish.  This past week in our fly fishing schools and guided trips the Murray's Crayfish Olive size 6 and Clouser Crayfish Olive size 6 were taking many nice bass.  If needed you can add a split shot above 6-10 inches above the crayfish to help get it deeper.  Strip these along like a regular crayfish in water that is 3-5 feet deep.

Both the North Fork and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River are low and clear so wade carefully. If you need help on access, stop by the fly shop or see my book Virginia Blue Ribbon Streams.

We only have a few openings in our Full Day Fly Fishing Schools and Half Day Lessons for Summer 2023. #LearnToFlyFish
