Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report- August 21, 2017

The North and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are both providing good fishing with surface bugs at dusk. On the North Fork of the Shenandoah River, the West bank downstream from access point #4 (Near Dr. Truban's Vet Clinic) is exceptionally good. On the South Fork of the Shenandoah River upstream from access point #11 (Seakford) along the East bank is exceptionally good. My best three bugs now are the Shenandoah Blue Popper size 4, Murray's Frog Chugger size 4 and Murray's Chartreuse/Black Bass Popper size 6. Fish these tight against the shaded banks where the water is two to three feet deep over cobblestone streambottoms. There is a good Hexagenia mayfly hatch at 7:30 on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. Fish to these rising bass with a Mr. Rapidan Bass Skater size 8.
