Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 19, 2025
Share
We are still on the starting edge of the smallmouth bass fishing. My son and some friends went floating on the Shenandoah River this week. While some caught one for the day, others got skunked. The water temperature is around 52 degrees in the middle of the afternoon. By using sinking tip lines and Fluorocarbon Leaders with big heavy weighted flies, you can increase your odds. Skulpin Bunny, Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauders in size 4, and Murray's Magnum Streamers size 4 are recommended. Fish these in the deep water, slowly across the stream bottom.
Both the North Fork and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River are clear and fishable. Waters levels are "full but fishable" so just be cautious when wading. Chest high waders are recommended along with a wading staff.
