Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - November 19, 2024

Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - November 19, 2024

The smallmouth bass fishing is slowing down with the cooler water temperatures. The water temperature on the North Fork has been around 48-52 degrees over the last few days. Therefore we need to provide a big mouthful to tempt the large bass. A combination I like to use is the Bass Caddis Nymph size 6 fished on a 3ft 2X mono dropper below a Bass Stonefly Nymph size 4. Other recommended flies this week include: Murray's Madtom Sculpin and Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker size 4. The best time to be on the water is middle of the afternoon after the water has warmed a little.

The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable from Mount Jackson to Woodstock. Please be aware of the dams that are on the North Fork as they are not safe nor legal to go around.

The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable for wading and floating. There are many places to float straight through without dams in the way on the South Fork.

If you need help on access, stop by the fly shop or see my book Fly Fishing the Shenandoah River for Smallmouth Bass.
