Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 23, 2018

Last week I discussed catching large bass in the deep cuts between the ledges with Strymphs. Another tactic is to use streamers such as the Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder (either olive or pearl) size 4 and Murray's Olive Strymph size 4 on a sink tip III line or a fast sinking head line. Cast these across stream into the deep cuts between the ledges and swim them slowly along the stream bottom by stripping them 6 inches every 10 seconds.
The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is still in beautiful shape for wading. The South Fork is in great shape for floating and wading. Please use caution when wading the South Fork as the water flow is still a little higher than normal for this time of year. Be sure to bring your chest high waders!
