Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report- October 24, 2017

As the smallmouth bass rivers become cooler, many of the large bass begin a mini-migration to the deep pools. Their needs to feed heavily in preparation for the coming winter prompts them to go after large minnows. This was very important in my developing of our Murray's Magnum Streamer series. Excellent patterns now are the Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker Streamer size 4, Murray's Magnum Darter Streamer size 4 and Murray's Magnum Creek Chub Streamer size 4.
I start at the heads of the deep pools and cast across stream. After my streamer sinks deeply I swim it across the streambottom by stripping it six inches every ten seconds. I wade slowly down the river using this tactic until I cover the whole pool. One fourth mile downstream from access point #5 (Chapman's Landing) on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River is good. Downstream from access point #14 (Bealer's Ferry) on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River is good.
