Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report- October 31, 2017

There is a good chance to catch some large bass now by fishing along the streambottom in the deep pools with large streamers. I use a Scientific Anglers Sink Tip III Fly Line with a Murray's Fluorocarbon 6 foot 2X Sinking Line Leader to fish Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker Streamer size 4, Murray's Magnum Darter Streamer size 4 and Murray's Magnum Creek Chub Streamer size 4 deeply where the large bass are holding. These bass are seldom willing to chase the natural minnows or our flies very far to capture them. Cover each pool thoroughly with overlapping casts before leaving an area.
The water for two miles downstream from access point #5 (Chapman's Landing) on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River has much of this type water. Up and across stream from access point #13 (Foster's Landing) on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River has some great deep pools.
