Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report- September 19, 2017

Many of the smallmouth bass are feeding on both Hexagenia adult drys and the emergers. My favorite way to cover this is to attach a Mr. Rapidan Bass Skater size 8 to a Murray's Bright Butt 9 foot 2X Leader. Then come off the bend of the dry fly hook with three feet of 2X tippet material to which I attach the Mr. Rapidan Olive Soft Hackle Nymph size 8. This rig can be fished upstream or across stream. A good area is access point #1 (Route 661 off Route 11) on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. A good area is access point #14 (Bealer's Ferry) on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. The density of this hatch can go from very heavy one day to spare the next day so just keep going back about dusk.
