The three nymph rig is very effective and much easier to cast than most anglers assume. Simply use an elliptical cast where you pick the nymphs up from the stream with a low side arm cast. As they extend behind you on your back cast, raise your rod to a vertical position and make your forward presentation straight overhead. This simple, in low and out high casting motion simplifies fishing a three nymph rig.
Recommended Flies: I use my Murray's Trout Nymphing 4X Leader with a Mr. Rapidan Brown Soft Hackle size 10 attached. To this I attach 24 inches of 5X mono and a Mr. Rapidan Olive Soft Hackle size 12. To this I attach 24 inches of 5X mono and a Mr. Rapidan Olive Soft Hackle size 16. Place a micro shot 6 inches above the bottom fly. Watch the S.A. Indicators built into the nymph leader to help detect the strikes.
Stream Conditions: The local streams have returned to normal levels since the heavy rains over the weekend. Big Stoney Creek, Mill Creek, and Passage Creek. are all clear and in beautiful shape to fish.
Recommended Gear: I am using a Trout Nymphing 4X Leader with a 7 1/2ft to 9ft fly rod with a 4 to 6 weight fly line.
