Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - April 2, 2025
Share
The local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable. The recent rains have helped to keep the water levels where they are ideal. Heritage Day is April 5. Therefore Heritage Water such as Passage Creek and Hawksbill Creek will be closed for fishing on Friday April 4 while they stock and prepare for Heritage Day. Fishing will be open at 9am on Saturday April 5 for any streams considered Heritage Water. Some of the local streams have been stocked this week with nice rainbows and a few streams have been stocked with brook trout. If you have tried to fish one of the remote streams in the last few months and came across a closed gate, the Forest Service has been working this week on re-opening the gates in certain areas located in the George Washington National Forest.
If you need help with access, stop by the fly shop. Nymphs and streamers are best but a few anglers are catching some on dry flies such as Mr. Rapidan Dry size 14. Recommended nymphs and streamers include: Jigged Copper John size 12, Prince Nymph size 14, Rubber Leg Nymph size 8, Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite Black size 8 and Murray's Marauder Olive size 10.
