Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - July 23, 2019

The same caddis I'm seeing on the mountain trout streams are thick on many of the large streams such as the Hidden Valley of the Jackson and the Bullpasture. In order to cover as much water as possible on these large streams I use a different tactic than that used in the mountains.
Wading downstream I cast across stream with a two-fly rig of the Mr. Rapidan Dry Olive Caddis size 14 with a Murray's Olive Caddis Pupa size 14. I attach the dry to my 7 1/2 ft 5X Classic Leader and then add 3ft of 5X mono below it and tie on my pupa. I use a strip-pause-strip every 2 feet to dance the flies across the stream.
Stream Conditions: Update 7/23/19 at 9a.m. All of the local stocked trout streams such as Big Stoney Creek (Edinburg), Mill Creek (Mount Jackson), and Passage Creek (Fort Valley) are muddy from the recent rains. I expect them to clear quickly and be fishable by Wednesday 7/24..
