Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - February 19, 2025

The stocked trout streams are what most anglers are focusing on right now. The local streams are in great shape and have full water levels which spreads the stocked trout into different areas. Big Stoney Creek west of Edinburg was recently stocked. With the little bit of extra water we have, heavy weighted nymphs and streamers are working best. Copper John Jig Nymph size 12, Perdigon Nymph (French) size 12, Olsen's Barbless Nymph size 16,  Jigged Squirmy Wormie size 12, and for streamers Murray's Tungsten Bead Marauder size 10 (black).

SAVE 15% on NYMPHS on our website through end of day 2/20/25.

The native brook trout streams are still too cold for fishing. All of the Skyline Drive is closed because of weather and downed trees.  I rode over to the Shenandoah National Park last week to check the conditions and was surprised by how much extra water was in the streams.  I didn't try to fish, but decided to wait a few more weeks.

Prime Time to fish these streams is April and May, which is why we schedule our fly fishing schools during this time.
