Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - November 14, 2024

Many little black stoneflies hatch on our trout streams at this time. Watch the slow back eddies for rising trout, then fish one-on-one to them with Murray's Little Dark Stonefly Dry size 16 using 7X and slack line casts. If you are not seeing rising trout, then use a Murray's Dark Stonefly Nymph size 14, Copper John (Zebra) size 16, or Perdigon (French) Nymph size 14. If you prefer using streamers, the Murray's Black Marauder size 10 or Betsy Streamer size 10 work well.

All of the local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable. The VA DWR continues to stock streams throughout VA with mostly rainbows and browns. See the stocking schedule. There was a forest fire near Passage Creek (Elizabeth Furnace area)  in Fort Valley so some hiking trails are still closed but the parking areas off Rt. 678 are open so you can access the stream. If you need help on the access places to Big Stoney Creek west of Edinburg or Passage Creek, stop by the fly shop.

The streams in the Shenandoah National Park are holding up well. I am still not fishing these streams as I have seen spawning beds up till the end of November and I want to do everything I can to preserve the native brook trout. Prime time to fish the native brook trout streams is April & May. There are a few things you can do to learn more about these streams.

We have added to our USED RODS selection so check them out on our website.
