Lefty’s Deceiver is one of the most iconic fly patterns in the world of fishing, celebrated for its versatility, durability, and effectiveness in imitating baitfish. Designed by the legendary angler Lefty Kreh, this fly has stood the test of time and remains a favorite among saltwater and freshwater fly fishers alike.
What is Lefty’s Deceiver?
Created in the 1950s, Lefty’s Deceiver was specifically designed to mimic slender baitfish, a key food source for many game fish species. Its streamlined design, combined with its ease of casting, makes it an excellent choice for anglers targeting species such as striped bass, snook, and redfish.
We use these flies in 2/0 for musky and bass in freshwater. In saltwater you will find success on Striped Bass, Bluefish, Speckled Trout, Gray Trout and Redfish with them. My favorite line for fishing these flies deeply is the Scientific Anglers Tropical Custom Tip fly line.
